Speaking of which, it was -27C this morn'g when Carol and I took the dogs out. That's 18 below 0 in F! Dogs loved it -- we froze our eyeballs! Full moon's doing this. It'll warm up as the moon wanes, next week. I'm ready. (I begged Hugh to send us photos of the dogs….Thanks.)
The dogs are Tipper and Bear -- they're sister and brother -- but he's long hair and she's short. They're Newfoundlander, Labrador Retriever cross. Meaning that they love to fetch (that's the fetch kong between Tipper and Carol's ski), and especially in the water. Both have webbed feet (the Newfie influence) so they're great swimmers.
Morrie and Pat Sites have lived in Anderson for many years. He says that they enjoy taking their prized possession out for a ride when the weather is nice. Guess it will be awhile before Indiana looks like this.
Now, that is one gorgeous vehicle. How about bringing that one to the reunion with you? We can take turns riding around in it.
Mounds State Park That plank pose is NO favorite of mine! But after you have had a heart attack, you will do almost anything the trainer tells you to do, right? Morrie, you should challenge all of us to get fit before the reunion. What better encouragement to lose weight than a 50th Reunion?????
Recently, I found the photos that were taken at the 40th Reunion in 2001. See how many you can identify.
The next morning, some of us who had stayed at the hotel had breakfast together. Left to Right: William Brinker, Marilyn Hardman Brinker, Rhoda Domer Miller, Ron Baker, Joyce Beery Miles, Bob Miles
Art has accepted the challenge to share a bit of his life over the past 50 years. He and his wife, Bev, have lived in Nevada for many years. Art worked as a personnel director in California and Nevada before opening his own auto accessory store in Reno. Bev recently retired after 28 years teaching middle school in Carson City. They have one son who is a high school history teacher in Boca Raton, Florida. They have traveled extensively in Europe and the United States. He loves to water and snow ski with season passes at both Heavenly Valley and Kirkwood. He said
“I think my favorite memory of MHS and North Manchester in general is what a great place to grow up. The community and high school were small enough that you felt a part of a close knit group, where everybody knew each other in our class and many people in the classes around us. I will be at the reunion and hope there is a big turn out.”

Hugh and I have been enjoying a wonderful walk back through memory lane and reconnecting after 50 years. His sense of humor, insightful musings, and a wonderful sense of sharing and caring have led us on a most delightful journey. He has shared so much of what his life is like out on the bush in Ontario that I am not sure where to begin to tell his story. Today, maybe a few photos and then more at a later date. Hugh, his wife Carol, and their dogs head out every morning to cross country ski and run the dogs. This doesn’t sound too bad until he reminds us that it is below zero—hence the anonymous ski mask. That doesn’t count as a current photo, I told him, so he eventually shared these from 2009 Holidays. Darned if he hasn’t aged quite well. Thanks for sharing, Hugh, and stay tuned for more of his story.
This past summer, Max Hammonds and I were able to meet for breakfast. We talked non-stop for nearly 90 minutes and never were able to catch up on 50 years of happenings in our lives. Max is a recently published author with a very interesting book about a woman he met in Thailand. He was in my community attending a conference at Lake Junaluska and we jumped at the opportunity to catch up. More on Max as he begins to contribute his story to our blog.
